The British Junior and U23 Championships saw a lot of lifters hit the qualification standard for next year’s senior British Championships at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
Jaswant Shergill hit the qualification standard, whilst Skip Callard is just 1kg away from doing the same. He and his brother Scoop have now hit the standard for the English Championships in January.
Nam Ahmadi’s win in the men’s 69kg U23s also qualified him for the British Championships, whilst Andrew O’Driscoll just hit the 235kg needed to get him to the event. Dane Charles, who also lifted in that category, has hit the standard for the English Championships.
Amber Sheppard and Poi Fakcha have now also qualified, as has Jade Hill. Allie Deeley is just 4kg away from assuring her qualification. Rachael Radman has hit the standard needed for the English Championships.
Cyrille Tchatchet has achieved the standard for the British Championships, with Prosper Armstrong 7kg away. Matt Hague has qualified for the English Championships in Milton Keynes, as have Jordan Vine and Prosper Armstrong.
The top three women in the 69kg U23 category have all now qualified for next year’s British Championships. Zoe Horseman, Sophie Smyth and Chloe Shelbourne-Ralph all lifted over 152kg to achieve the standard required. Maddie Fry and Ariella Thompson have hit the standard for the English Championships.
Fraer Morrow and Kim Pham have also hit the standard needed for the British Championships, whilst Jennifer Tong is now just 7kg away. She has however achieved the standard for the English Championships.
Adrian Canaveral is just 1kg from qualification, whilst Chi Chea and Jamal Isaac-Shah are 6kg and 7kg away from the total needed. Marcus Collins and Mason Symonds are 1kg away from hitting the total needed for the English Championships.
Olivia Blatch and Laura Hollobon have achieved the qualification total for the British Seniors, whilst Jo Dobson has qualified for the English Championships.
Liem Bui-Le and Jack Dobson have both now got the total required for the British Championships next year, whilst Josh Skillington has achieved qualification for the English Championships, as has Jonathan Smith.
Finally, Mercy Brown and Emily Campbell have both hit the total needed for qualification, whilst all of the women that competed in the 75kg and 75+kg categories have qualified for the English Championships, apart from Lucy Jackson, who is just 9kg off the standard needed.
5 of Crystal Palace’s lifters at this event managed to qualify, and with Prosper Armstrong and Jamal Isaac-Shah not too far away, that total could be added to soon. Jade Hill and Olivia Blatch from Europa could soon be joined by Skip Callard in assuring qualification.
Jaswant Shergill’s total he achieved at the British Juniors would have seen him win the gold in this year’s equivalent event at the British Seniors. Jade Hill would have achieved bronze with a total of 161kg, which she lifted at the weekend. Olivia Blatch’s weekend lift of 170kg would have seen her bronze from this year’s British Seniors turn into a silver, and Liem Bui-Le’s 293kg total beats Cathal Byrd’s winning 284kg from this year’s event.
